I want to make an outdoor fish pond. Rubber type liners are expensive. Can I use an old swimming pool liner?
By admin | January 29, 2010
Any other fairly cheap ideas to hold water in a pond. I just want goldfish in the pond, nothing fancy. I want the pond to be about 10ft by 10 ft. Thanks

Anyone on here had a pool liner recently installed?
By admin | January 28, 2010
Does 2800.00 sound reasonable for a 30 mil. pool liner, new safety drain cover and installation? Sounds a little steep to me but everything is always more than you think it’s gona be. Wondering if we should try to get a second estimate. Thing is there’s only one pool store anywhere near our house. It’s an 18 by 36, 7 1/2 foot deep polymer wall and vermiculite bottom pool.

Todays Above Ground Pool – Pros and Cons
By admin | January 23, 2010
In years past, the choice in what type of pool someone was going to have installed in their yard was much more simple. If they could afford it, they went with a standard cement built in. If they couldn’t afford it, they went with an above ground pool and that was it.
A More Beautiful Pool
However; over the past decade or so broad sweeping changes have taken place in the pool industry as a whole that have turned this equation completely upside down. To start with, todays above ground pool is a much more aesthetically attractive prospect.
That Permanent Built in Look
Amazing decorative pool liners for instance, have done away with the look of the classic blue liner for those who want something different. Also, easy to build prefabricated wrap around natural wood decks completely conceal above ground pool siding for that “permanent” built in look.
Complete Kit Packages
Also, todays above ground pool can be purchased in complete “kit” packages that include everything you need to get swimming, including the pump, ladder, filter and all of the plumbing. So, has the above ground pool on the way to completely replacing the classic cement built in?
The Cement Built in Option
Not at all, because while they are fast becoming even more prohibitively expensive, the wealthy still can afford them for their homes. So while they are still an option, they are an expensive option with the average cost of a basic no frills cement built in now running around $50,000.
The Pool Investment
There are still other things to consider when looking at todays above ground pool. For instance as an investment a cement built in pool has lost its glow. In short they just don’t deliverer the same bang for the buck on a homes value that they used to. In fact, in most instances a home owner is going to have to take a loss on their investment when they have a cement built in installed in their yard.

Are vinyl pool liners made especially for different climates?
By admin | January 22, 2010
We need to replace our above ground pool liner. I went to the local pool store and the guy told me that I should be sure to buy a “northern” pool liner or it would not hold up during our cold winters. His prices were twice (+ tax) what I would pay online (no tax + free s & h) for a pool liner. He said I would most likely get a “southern” liner online. Is that true? And if I do need a specially formulated northern pool line, where might I get one?

Above ground pool liner getting more wrinkles by the day! What is up?
By admin | January 20, 2010
We have had our pool for 3 years, and have always had one or two wrinkles in the liner. As this summer has passed there are now wrinkles everywhere. What could be causing this, how do we get rid of them, and keep them from coming back?!

Todays Above Ground Pools Just Aren’t What They Used to be
By admin | January 18, 2010
Anyone over forty surly remembers back to their childhood and their first experiences with above ground pools. They were generally small round and shallow, were great fun to play in but they were a far cry from what a genuine built in pool was. In ground pools had a deep end, a slide or diving board and sometimes even both. Also for the parents, a built in pool was something that was located at the very top of their “wish list” of things that they wanted for their home. Well that was then and this is now and you won’t believe the changes that above ground pools have gone through since those early days. And the great thing about these amazing, revolutionary new above ground pools is that they don’t have to spend any amount time on your wish list, because they are still so highly affordable.
A True Pleasure to Behold
The first thing that you will notice about todays completed and decked above ground pool is that it looks just like an in-ground, built in pool. A deep end, a slide or diving board and even newly designed, high tech faux vinyl tile or decorative aggregate (polished pebble) pool liners complete the total effect that looks nothing short of fantastic.
Prefabricated Easy to Install Wood Decks
A prefabricated, custom fit, all wood wrap around deck comes right up to the pools edge. completely eliminating any siding from view, so all the you see is deck, tile and crystal clear blue water. Add some lounge chairs, a table, an umbrella possibly some potted plants and the picture of a backyard paradise is totally complete.
Loads of Choices in Super affordable accessories and Equipment
Another great feature about todays above ground pool is that accessories and equipment for it comes in a far wider selection and is still so darned cheap! In fact, you can now purchase an above ground pool automatic cleaner that will keep your pool spotless for less than $100.
Easy to Set Up and Just As Easy to Take Down and Pack Up
Also, todays above ground pools go together so much easier and are constructed from much better materials. This means that if and when you decide to move to another home, its a cinch to take the whole thing apart, pack it up and take it with you to your new home.

Winterize the right way with Teddy Bear Pools & Spas!

Winterize the right way with Teddy Bear Pools & Spas!
Winter can be tough on a pool. Algae and other problems can start even in cold weather, making spring opening messy and expensive. Prevent these problems now by winterizing your pool properly and using Teddy Bear Pools & Spas closing products. Teddy Bear products are designed to keep your pool water clean and clear all winter long.
Proper winterization also protects pool surfaces and equipment, and makes spring start-up quick and easy. Keep in mind, proper winterization involves more than just adding products. Follow the steps below to make sure your pool is well protected through the cold weather months.
1. Balance the pool water.
Take a sample of your pool water to Teddy Bear Pools & Spas for expert advice on water balance. If needed, adjust the pH to 7.4 - 7.6 and make sure the other balance factors are in their proper range to prevent damage to your pool liner. (Note: if your pool is not using chlorine consult your Teddy Bear Lab Staff on Proper closing guidelines).
If algae is present in your pool you should treat this prior to your pool closing. If left untreated it will only get worse during the winter months, even if you use a Teddy Bear closing kit.
2. Winter Cleaning
Brush all pool walls and bottom and vacuum if needed. Clean along the waterline and around pool surfaces with an appropriate pool surface cleaner. Also clean out the skimmer and hair and lint trap. Backwash your filter and use a Bear Strip Filter Cleaner to remove oils and grease and ensure proper operation for next season.
3. Add Teddy Bear Closing Kit
Teddy Bear Pools & Spas Provides 2 different closing kits. Kit 1 winterizes up to 15,000 gallons, Kit 2 winterizes pools up to 30,000 gallons (For larger pools ask our lab staff for assistance). Both Closing Kits contain Bear Shock 56, Bear Magnet and Teddy Bear Algaecide.
With the filter running simply add all 3 winterizing chemicals (It doesn’t matter in what order). Predissolve Bear Shock 56 by adding 1 lb of shock to 2-3 gallons of water. Mix thoroughly and then add evenly across pool surface. Let your filter run for at least 2 hours to distribute these products evenly throughout the water.
4. Prepare your equipment
Consult with Teddy Bear Pools & Spas about proper winterization for your pool equipment. This may involve partial draining, plugging lines, and equipment removal and storage. If you use antifreeze to protect your pool lines or equipment be sure to use antifreeze approved for pool use. Do not use automotive anti-freeze.
5. Cover the pool
A well designed cover will keep your pool protected and free from leaves, dirt, and other debris during the winter months. Solid covers should be free of holes and held in place securely by water tubes or cables. Add about 1 inches of water to the top of the cover to help hold it in place. Mesh covers may also be used but will allow rain and some material to enter the pool during the winter. Apply an additional treatment of Algaecide about halfway through the winter to help keep the water clean and free from algae.

How to store pool liner so it does not dry out?
By admin | January 9, 2010
We have to take down our above ground pool and will not be putting it up until next summer at the earliest. How can we store the liner so that it does not dry out and crack? It is almost brand new, I would hate to have to buy another one.
